Our 12 hour first aid paediatric course consists of 6 hours in the classroom and 6 hours via e-learning. The classroom session is taught in a very hands-on manner which makes it particularly suitable for people for whom English is not their first language. Our course will equip you with the skills to be able to recognise and respond to a first aid emergency safely and efficiently.

We also provide the Common Core of Skills and Knowledge course, and an Enhanced DBS check service. If you need these as well as first aid, you might want to consider our Ofsted package.

Course Structure

Classroom Content

The 6 hour classroom based component covers how to deal with accidents and emergencies involving young children, including:

Role and responsibilities of paediatric first aider
Incident and casualty assessment
CPR
Unconscious casualty
Recovery position
Management of a seizure
Choking
Anaphylaxis
Shock
External bleeding

Online Content

The online component extends your knowledge, covering the following:

Understanding the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider (including the appropriate contents of a first aid box and the need for recording incidents and accidents)
Poisonous Substances
Bites and Stings
Foreign body in ear, nose and eyes
Electric shock
Effects of extreme heat or cold
Emergencies
- asthma attack
- diabetic emergency
- allergic reaction
- meningitis and/or febrile convulsions

Duration

The course is made up of 1 day in person training and a separate eLearning course that can be done in your own time. The classroom training runs from 9:45am-3:45pm. Access to the online part of the course will be given to you when you enrol and needs to be complete within 4 weeks of the date of the classroom session. Please make sure you arrive before the course starts. Those arriving more than 15 minutes late may be refused entry. ID required, please bring this with you when attending.

Location

Our regular venue is the Wesley in Euston, NW1. If you are looking to run a private session for your own setting or group, we can also arrange for bespoke training at your own venue. The online part is accessible through our eLearning platform

Delivery

This course is delivered in two parts. The first part is delivered in person in a classroom format, and the second part is completed online at your own pace.

How will I be assessed?

Students are assessed at the end of the online training via a test.

Certification

12 hour Paediatric First Aid certification, approved by Ofsted.

Who is this suitable for?

This course is designed for professional childcarers that work as nursery practitioners, childminders, crèche workers, playscheme staff or those working in a daycare setting. It is an accredited course that provides certified training to meet OFSTED requirements and also meets the requirements for Paediatric First Aid outlined in the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) 2014.
