If you want to work in a childcare position in England or Wales you will be required to have a DBS check (formerly CRB). This is a check of your criminal record by the Disclosure and Barring Service. After the check, you will be provided with a certificate that you can show to prospective employers/parents to show you are a suitable person to work with children, giving them peace of mind.
For more information about the Disclosure & Barring Service please visit the government website.
You are also required to have these checks if you wish to apply for the voluntary register with Ofsted as a childminder or nanny, which can further increase your employability. We have many years’ experience completing these checks and offer a guidance service to help people with their application. Upon purchasing our DBS check, we will need to confirm your identity using one of the following methods:
Digital ID check:
If you don’t have a biometric passport or are unable to complete a digital ID check, please contact our team so we can arrange a virtual meeting with you to manually check your ID. For this meeting, you will need:
For your application to be processed you will also need to be able to enter the details of your last 5 years’ address history (we do not need proof of these).
To start your DBS checking service, please make your purchase through the ‘Buy Now’ button above. Once the purchase is complete, you will receive a link inviting you to complete your application.
For your digital ID check you will need a biometric passport or ID documents. You can tell if your passport is biometric if it has a small, gold camera logo on the front of it.
For the check you will need to take a picture of yourself, and a picture of your ID document which will then be independently validated.
If you don’t have a biometric ID document, you will need to book a video meeting with a member of our team.
Our video interviews last between 5 – 10 minutes and are generally available Monday to Friday 9am till 3pm. In special circumstances we can arrange different times.
To request a video meeting, please email us at info@childcarestudies.co.uk
The interview will require you to present originals of your documents:
In the same invitation link, there is an application form you must complete. Once this is done, we will validate the check and send it off. After 2-3 days we will have a tracking number for your application.
Once the check has been completed you should subscribe to the update service, which allows you to keep up-to-date with your check for an annual subscription of £13 a year. We will supply you with an application reference number which allows you to subscribe via the online DBS update service. We advise you do this immediately once you have your application reference number and not to wait until you have your paper copy. The online DBS update service must be joined within 28 days, otherwise you will not be able to register for the service for that year and you will need to go through the DBS application process again.
