This bespoke qualification is designed to provide individuals with advanced knowledge, skills, and competencies required to support mothers and newborns during the postnatal period. It focuses on delivering specialised care to ensure the well-being of both mother and baby, addressing areas such as maternal recovery, newborn care, lactation support, and emotional guidance.

The primary purpose of the qualification is to equip learners with the expertise needed to work in a professional capacity as maternity nurse practitioners, offering high-quality postnatal care. This includes addressing specific needs such as feeding support, sleep routines, and maternal mental health, as well as fostering confidence and independence for new parents.

Course Duration

Students have 16 weeks from the start of training to complete and submit their assignments. For online study route, this starts from the date of enrolment – students will follow the online course at their own pace. For the classroom route, the training consists of a weekend of study – this consists of a full day on the Saturday (10am to 5pm) and a half day on the Sunday (10 am till lunch time).

Course Location

In person training is at our central London venue. The Maternity Support Hub sessions are held online over zoom.

Course Delivery

Course delivery is either through in person classroom training at our central London venue, or online using our eLearning platform. In addition, students are welcome to join our Maternity Support Hub sessions for up to 12 months from starting the course. These are live and interactive sessions, hosted remotely on zoom, and run every 2 to 4 weeks throughout the year.

Prerequisites

Age
To enrol on the this bespoke qualification, learners must be at least 18 years old

Education
A basic level of education is required, equivalent to secondary school level.

Experience
Learners will need either a prior qualification in maternity nursing or a related field of study, or at least 1 years experience of working with newborns or infants.

Language proficiency
Learners must be able to demonstrate a basic level of English literacy, as the course materials and assessments are in English.

Equipment
Learners must have access to an internet-enabled device, along with a stable internet connection, in order to access course materials, join live sessions, and to produce and submit written assignments.

How will I be assessed?

During the programme you will receive assignment questions and will have 14 weeks beyond the end of the taught course to complete them.

Your assignments will be assessed by one of the trainers, who will contact you about your results and provide you with feedback.

Extensions: In a situation where the student is unable to complete their assignments within the given period, the student can apply for an extension, detailing the reason for the extension.

Accreditation

The course is accredited by OCN (Credit4Learning), at level 4 or 5. Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate form OCN, the awarding body, and also one from us denoting your passing grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Who is this course suitable for?

This qualification is ideal for experienced caregivers, Individuals already working in childcare, or aspiring professional, those looking to enter the field of postnatal care with a structured and recognised pathway.

Although the primary focus is for those intent on a career as a non medical maternity nurse, it is also popular and suitable for midwives, health visitors, nannies, Early Years practitioners, and other professionals who want to learn more about holistic, evidence-based, approach to the care of a newborn and related impact on the family.

What are the prerequisites for the maternity course?

Prior to attending this course, students must have a minimum of 1 year of experience working with babies, including newborns. If you do not possess any experience with newborns, we suggest enrolling in our Level 3 course and seeking a placement where you can provide support to an experienced mother or you work alongside an experienced maternity nurse.

How do I enroll on the course?

This course is either delivered in-person in central London, or you can enrol for the self-paced online route.

How much time per week is required for studying?

As a general guideline, we recommend dedicating 4-6 hours per week to work on your assignments.
