Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) is the minimum qualification required for recently qualified early years practitioners. However, some roles require the full Level 3 Paediatric First Aid (PFA12hr). Do you know which one you need?
The requirements as set out by the government are somewhat complex, but in general, if you are a childminder looking after children under 8, you need the full 12 hour PFA. If you work in an early years setting, you will need at least the 6 hour EPFA, but you should speak to your manager to confirm, as there needs to be at least one member of staff on site with the full qualification.
Nannies who wish to join the voluntary childcare register will need the EPFA.
If you are working for an after school club, typically you will need the full PFA12hr.
Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course (EPFA) 6 hour
This course is comprehensive, interactive and fun. The course focuses on emergency scenarios that are faced by nannies, childminders, nanny/housekeepers and people who work with young children.
This course meets the First Aid requirements of OFSTED for the voluntary register.
Full Level 3 Blended Paediatric First Aid Course (PFA12hr)
Our 12 hour first aid paediatric course consists of 6 hours in the classroom and 6 hours via e-learning. The classroom session is taught in a very hands-on manner which makes it particularly suitable for people for whom English is not their first language. Our course will equip you with the skills to be able to recognise and respond to a first aid emergency safely and efficiently.
Who should attend?
Nannies, Nanny/Housekeepers, Parent’s Helps, Parents/Grandparents or those within Early Years who are working as part of a team with other staff who hold a Full Paediatric First Aid Certificate. Childminders or those working alone on the Compulsory Ofsted Register must take the Full Paediatric First Aid Course.
Who should attend?
This course is designed for professional childcarers that work as nursery practitioners, childminders, crèche workers, playscheme staff or those working in a daycare setting. It is an accredited course that provides certified training to meet OFSTED requirements and also meets the requirements for Paediatric First Aid outlined in the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) 2014.
